Therapeutic Adventure Programming for Indoor and Small Group Applications

This is a three-day workshop designed for alternative school personnel, school counselors/social workers, teachers, clinicians, group home and residential treatment staff who do not intend to use a challenge course who wish to learn how to use this multi-faceted approach to foster adaptive functioning, healthy relationships and positive life outcomes for their participants using classroom and small group activities. 

 Participants will: 

  • Engage in, and assess, adventure-based activities used as a therapeutic tool to promote growth and development in small group settings. 

  • Practice and understand the importance of providing a trauma-informed, emotionally, and physically safe environment. 

  • Connect Project Adventure Cornerstone philosophies of Challenge By Choice, Full Value Contract and the Experiential Learning Cycle with therapeutic outcomes. 

  • Learn techniques and strategies used to enhance transfer of learning through the Facilitated Wave, and processing techniques used for briefing and debriefing. 

  • Explore broader perspectives of how adventure can impact people who come from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Therapeutic Adventure Programming workshops are not: 

  • Therapy or encounter group experiences (See References for Ethical Guidelines published by the Association for Experiential Education) 

  • Replacement for formal training in one's chosen professional discipline. 

  • Designed to train participants as clinicians or clinical therapists. 

Workshop Dates:

  • January 28-30, 2025

  • October 21-23, 2025

Workshop Information:

  • $550 per person – Includes registration, workshop manual and lunch during workshop.

  • Number of days: 3

  • Workshop hours: 8:30am-4:00pm

  • Beverly, MA Site Logistics with recommended lodging options can be found HERE.

  • Please register more than two weeks in advance to ensure the workshop will have enough participants to run as scheduled.

  • Workshop registration cancellation policies: Cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to a workshop start date will result in 50% refund of tuition cost. No shows without cancellation notice will forfeit all tuition cost paid,

  • Purchase Orders: If your school or organization will be using a Purchase Order, please email registration@pa.org to register. A copy of the Purchase Order will need to be submitted to that same email address to finalize the registration.
