Adventure with Youth at Risk

  • 719 Cabot St Beverly, MA 01915 United States (map)
$550.00

This is a specialized workshop for professionals who provide positive behavioral health interventions or therapeutic adventure programming for participants in schools, treatment centers, detention centers and other specialized programs. This workshop focuses on developing the skills needed to implement adventure activities within a therapeutic setting, specifically in ongoing support groups. Topics include utilizing the Facilitated Wave, adventure that is trauma-informed, assessment tools such as the Stages of Group Development, social-emotional learning, and front-loading, framing and facilitating adventure activities for positive behavioral health outcomes. We recommend participants take this workshop after our Therapeutic Adventure Programming and Developing Therapeutic Adventure Programming workshops and for experienced practitioners.

Participants will:

  • Use various adventure activities and therapeutic adventure best practices to help group members build trust and successfully manage conflicts as they move through stages of group development.

  • Practice appropriately selecting, sequencing, and processing activities to meet specific positive behavioral health intervention objectives.

  • Identify how to evaluate and understand the dynamics of the group’s experience to determine and focus on relevant discussion topics so learning is personal and has present and future relevance.

  • Learn strategies to lessen participant’s dependency of leader’s control of their behaviors so they may learn to make responsible decisions and manage their own behaviors.
